1. Season 1 (2018)

Originally, Cobra Kai was released on May 2, 2018, on YouTube Red as an original series. The comedy-drama tv series is a sequel to the original Karate Kid film. 

In the beginning, Cobra Kai continued the interesting history of the lead characters, Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) and Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio). Set 34 years later, the lives of both martial artists were poles apart. LaRusso, being the protagonist of the original films, led a comfortable life while Lawrence, the antagonist, led a miserable one. 

Even from the beginning, the story starts with the pre-existing conflict between the two main casts in the past. When Miguel Diaz, a potential martial arts student, came into the picture, Lawrence (William Zabka) opened Cobra Kai. 

The plot thickened when Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) learned about it. Hence, other storylines started to unfold following the introduction of new characters.

2. Season 2 (2019)

On April 24, 2019, Cobra Kai’s second installment was finally released on YouTube Premium. Six characters came from the past installment to play the same roles. Only Gianni DeCenzo, Jacob Bertrand, and Martin Kove were the new characters added to the series to play new roles.

3. Season 3 (2021)

The third installment of the martial arts series was released on January 1, 2021. However, it wasn’t released on YouTube but on Netflix instead. 

When the giant streaming app acquired the rights to air the third installment, Cobra Kai’s popularity skyrocketed and sealed the deal! More stories, fans, and higher ratings came into the picture.

4. Season 4 (2021)

Cobra Kai Season 4 was released shortly after its third season. It was released on December 31, 2021, and has a longer running time per episode. 

Season 4 introduced one of the best casts of the series, Thomas Ian Griffith, as Terry Silver, who had been cast in the same role in Karate Kid Part III. Martin Kove also made a huge impression as an ultimate villain when he made a deal to close the losing dojo at the All Valley Tournament.

Season 5

According to some news, Season 5 has already finished filming its new episodes, amidst the series having an already decided endgame plan from the beginning. However, Netflix has yet to confirm its release, so it’s difficult to predict when the series will be released.

If we are to follow the filming and release schedule of the Cobra Kai Season 4, the new season shall commence in either July or August 2022. The Cobra Kai Season 4 was released after eight months of filming.

The first installment seems to be the most loved season by far. It seemed to have set the standard for the whole Cobra Kai franchise.
