What Makes It Expensive: Jack the Black Cat is the 500th Squishmallow character, with only 500 pieces on its initial launch. Because of its special design, it has instantly become one of the most valuable and rarest Squishmallows ever.

From around $30 per piece, Jack the Black Cat can now be purchased for around $1,000 or more.

This Squishmallow has closed white eyes with a tiny pink mouth and white whiskers. It also has the number 500 on his left ear, making it the first limited edition Squishmallow sold through the official Kelly Toys website.

Avery is a mallard duck, small in stature but an extremely talented rugby team member. His entire family is always there to support him in his dream of becoming a coach someday, and they also love celebrating his games with popsicles.

Limited Edition Releases

Limited edition releases are the bread and butter of collectibles like Squishmallows. When an ultra-rare Squishmallow is released at specific events, it ramps up the urgency and desire among collectors.

Hunting for rare limited releases has become popular since the COVID-19 pandemic [1]. The excitement around these limited releases boosts their value sky-high.

Like any other collector, securing a limited edition is like winning a plush jackpot for me. It's like having a piece of Squishmallow history since certain designs will never be available again in the future.

Character Popularity

Well, everyone has a favorite character, right? When a favorite character is turned into a Squishmallow, its popularity can drive the price up. Fans and collectors rush to get their hands on a soft version of their beloved character.

However, there are also popular Squishmallows from their original lineup, like Archie the Axolotl, Benny the Yeti, Brina the Bigfoot, and Connor the Cow [2]. These 24-inch giants make them popular among children and grown adults alike.

Kelly Toys incorporated adorable personalities into their stuffed toys, making them resonate with a lot of people and becoming a must-have comforting pal that everyone wants to cuddle.

So, if you think about it, it is just another usual case of the higher the demand, the more valuable an item becomes.

Condition & Authenticity

Guess what makes a Squishmallow not just cute but also super valuable? Yep, it's all about condition and authenticity. A bit rare Squishmallows in mint condition with original tags can significantly increase in value. Ensuring our plush pals aren't just adorable and genuine is crucial for collectors like us.

We also emphasize the importance of trusted sources and stores when looking for our next Squishmallow collectible. Here at Toynk, you can be sure that we only offer authentic and original products to our valued customers.

Market Trends

Like any collectible, most Squishmallows are subject to market trends. What's hot today might be even hotter tomorrow, so keeping an eye on the collector's market is crucial for serious collectors.

As mentioned, Squishmallows became more popular in 2020. People worldwide have been sharing their collections online on their social media accounts, which has helped their mental health during difficult times [3]

So, when a particular Squishmallow becomes a viral sensation, its price might skyrocket.

That's why knowing when to buy or sell can make all the difference in building a valuable collection. It's like being a stock trader, but way more fun because, well, Squishmallows!

Collecting Squishmallows as an Investment

Long-Term Value

Have you ever considered how those adorable Squishmallows could be more than just a cuddle buddy but also a savvy investment? It's true! Collectors are always on the lookout for those unique or hard-to-find models, and as they become harder to snag, their market value soars.

Some of the rarest Squishmallows have shown a remarkable increase in value. For instance, some early releases or ultra-rare Squishmallows that were once sold for a few bucks can now fetch hundreds, even thousands of dollars!

Cam the Cat (Easter Squad) was the very first Squishmallow. Although it does not command a high price, it's one of the most valuable collector's items at auction sites.

Other Squishmallows and collector's items you can watch out for are Mariah the Lamb (Baby Squad), who loves horchata and horseback riding, and Golden Han with a top hat and bow tie. Even Fania the Purple Owl sold at auction sites for around $3,000 a few years back.

Investment Tips

So now, you want to turn your Squishmallow collection into a serious investment? Great idea!

Here are some strategies to help you build a valuable collection: First, focus on rarity. Limited editions, discontinued models, or those tied to specific events are typically a good bet.

Keeping them in mint condition with original tags significantly adds to their value, so treat them with care—maybe even keep some in their original packaging if you can resist the urge to squish them!

Next, stay connected with the community, follow Squishmallow social media accounts, and participate in forums.

And lastly, diversify your collection. Don't just stick to a whole lineup of one squad. Having a variety of Squishmallows can protect you from losses if one particular type suddenly drops in popularity.

Risks & Considerations

Remember, the market can be unpredictable. Plus, ensuring authenticity is crucial, as fake Squishmallows can decrease in value and dampen the spirit of collecting.

The market has seen a rise in counterfeit Squishmallows, which can be almost identical to genuine ones. It not only makes it harder to maintain the value of your collection but can also be a trap for new collectors.

Always verify authenticity before purchasing, especially when dealing with rare or unusually cheap finds.
