Dragonball Z vs Kai (2024 UPDATED) All You Need to Know

Dragonball Z vs Kai (2024 UPDATED) All You Need to Know

Generation X, Millennials, or Generation Z, love the Dragon Ball Z anime, and many are still following DBZ manga episodes, despite the pause made by the writers. Its popularity is unquestionable. That is why Dragon Ball Z Kai was created, but which version is better?  This can be a tough thing to weigh, so let us dissect some features one by one.  Dragon Ball Kai or Dragon Ball Z The original DBZ series was undoubtedly a phenomenon on an international scale because Dragon Ball Z Kai was created. If DragonBall Z were not a big hit, there wouldn't be any purpose in recreating it. But the question is - will Dragon Ball Z Kai surpass the original Dragon Ball Z? Both are based on what Akira Toriyama wrote, but the original script was a lot longer. Dragon Ball Z Kai skipped Dragon Ball and all the fillers, which makes it a shorter version, but what Toei Animation wanted was to give the fans of the new generation a dose of DBZ. That’s exactly what they did.  Dragon Ball Z Plot Summary The Japanese version presented the adult life of the hero, Goku. He and the rest of the team battled various villains. These vary from almost unbeatable and very powerful androids and aliens who travel to conquer and destroy. Dragon Ball Z showed how much he is willing to sacrifice. He was ready to risk his life for his family and friends, triggering his super Saiyan (1) powers. Also Read: What's the Best DBZ Gift? Characters The casts were all important in the original DBZ series, including their opponents. Goku was already a funny and kind-hearted person who didn't know his potential until he met Master Roshi, who trained him. They added new characters apart from Chi-chi, Bulma, Yamcha, and Krillin as the series progressed. They were already a part of Dragon Ball, even before Goku became a Super Saiyan.  Number of Episodes/Seasons Dragon Ball Z episodes has a total of 291 parts which are depicted from the manga series. It took off after the last part of the DragonBall series, where Goku and Chichi got married. The first episode of Dragon Ball Z is part of the Raditz Saga, "Mini Goku is Just Precious!" This Uncut episode was aired on April 26, 1989. The final episode was aired on January 31, 1996, "Even Stronger!! Goku's Dream is Super-Huge". However, it does not contain any of the filler parts. The part where Goku meets Master Roshi and the gang is not part of this series. Several factors are omitted, even with the Japanese version, but Garlic Jr. remains the main antagonist of DBZ Kai, just like FBZ. Characters All of the casts in Dragon Ball Z are present up until the Frieza Saga since this is where DBZ Kai ended. Piccolo still ended up as his friend and Gohan's protector and teacher, the same as what source material tells. Number of Episodes/Seasons You can only watch DBZ Kai in 159 parts, mainly because they did not include filler episodes on what was aired. That is actually what the producers wanted. Also, it ended abruptly in the Freeza Saga, as it is called in Japan, which made it even shorter than the original anime version. Though there are fewer with Kai, there are still memorable fight scenes, especially when the Dragon Soul soundtrack is played in the background.  Shop The Drazon Ball Collection Now How Do They Differ?  Graphics & Visuals Graphics and visuals are very different, and as many see it, Dragon Ball Z has a darker theme compared to the lighter vibes of DBZ Kai. It has more contrast (2), the reason why some say that the older version does not contain subtlety even if the storyline already requires it. You will definitely notice the difference between the two, but then again, it will always fall to the preference of the person watching it.  Soundtrack Dragon Soul is widely accepted worldwide as well as this is also a good representation of what the producers wanted for this animation revision. On the other hand, this theme song created by Bruce Faulconer became the iconic sound when battles were about to happen.  The dub and the soundtrack of Kai are high quality, similar to how they make it in the movies, but there is something about the original soundtrack that makes it very nostalgic.  Iconic Scenes The iconic scenes first seen on the DragonBall series will not be shown on Kai since they omitted the Dragon Ball series and stopped on Cell Saga. A couple of these are Goku's transformation into a Super Saiyan and the Majin Buu Saga. Though Frieza's fight against Goku is still very much present in this revision, many scenes are missing.  International Presence Comparing the two, DBZ Kai has a stronger international presence compared to DBZ itself. This does not follow through, that the original script was not a good one. The comparison of the technology used and the easy access to the revision series gives it an edge, although all this appreciation mostly comes from individuals who watched DBZ before.  Scene Fillers Fillers are not present in the Kai series, which in a way, is frustrating. Kai did not feature the moment when Yamcha used the Wolf Fang Fist or even when Piccolo and Goku learned how to drive. Since Kai was totally faithful to the manga narrative, these parts were omitted, even when initially aired in Japan. On the other hand, DBZ may have a lot of these, but it completed the plot completely.  Story Presentation If you watched Kai directly without seeing any of DBZ, you would find that the story is very precise, covering the triumphant wins over the evil opponents. They are trying to harm the earth and the universe. However, Dragon Ball Z started when the hero was still a boy. The entire narrative was laid out completely, even enhanced with some of the filler episodes that completed our hero's transformation.  Dialogues/Lines Surprisingly, Kai used dialogues from the manga series, which may be surprising for DBZ fans. It may have been part of the expectation that the first release was closer to how the author Toriyama created it for so many years. However, if you thoroughly scrutinize the specifics of what lines were said on Kai, you will see how closely it is with what the author has written which is also the original plan for this series. Also Read: Best Dragon Ball Z Party Decors Censorship There was too much violence, gore, and explicit scenes, so they had to lessen the bloodshed and remove the parts where body exposure or sexual humor is shown. Racism is also not allowed. That is why when Kai was aired, everything related to those mentioned was either toned down or cut. Though they removed many things, all fights were retained, including the special beam cannon attack.  Footage When it comes to footage, there isn't much that has changed. As everyone knows, this is a revision, so whatever portion of Dragon Ball Z that was not shown that good is simply enhanced to lure in more people to follow. The dub on the original version may be a bit on the low side, but you can be sure that the footage is not squashed that much when it comes to footage.  Voice Actors Luckily, important voices remained, such as Sean Schemmel, who first dubbed the funimation in 1999 in Cartoon Network. With Kai, he continued to bring life to the same character. However, some roles had to be represented by different voice actors, such as Kid Gohan, Trunks, and Android 19. The voice actors are understandable not to be the same since some have already passed on and others are unavailable. FAQs Can I watch Dragonball Kai without watching DBZ? Yes, you can start watching Kai without going through any Dragon Ball Z episode if you want more manga vibes, per se. This version is more faithful to what the author of the original script has written compared to Dragon Ball Z.  Dragon Ball Z or Kai, which has a bigger budget? Dragon Ball Z Kai has the bigger budget even though it has a shorter span. It only has 153 total chapters compared to the 291 of DBZ, but enhancing all the low-budget images into HD quality costs more. They also made total alterations to abide by the instructions provided to avoid banning the program.  And the Winner Is...  Dragon Ball Z will always be the winner if these two are compared. Those who never had the chance to view the original series Dragon Ball Z would say that Kai is a high-quality anime series and would prefer Kai because it remained true to what the scriptwriter has written.  However, to those who had the chance to follow DBZ when it was still Dragon Ball, hearing the soundtrack Bruce Faulconer created will allow them to imagine the death-defying battles between Goku and his almost-immortal opponents. These are the same technically, but in the end, you will always opt for something that will give you the complete details, and that is what Dragonball Z has.  Fill your room with Dragon Ball collectibles from Toynk and relive your Dragon Ball memories everyday. All were adaptations from Akira Toriyama's Manga Series, Dragonball. The success of the anime led to another series. This time, it is Dragonball GT. It came out with 64 episodes but not based on the original Manga Series.  What came next is a continuation to the manga (2) adaptation with 131 episodes, Dragonball Super. In commemoration of this anime's 20th and 25th anniversaries, Dragonball Z Kai was created, and it was a revision of DBZ, which ran for a total of 167 episodes.  Also Read: DBZ Kai vs DBZ Movies/Films The anime started in 1984, but the first film about it was shown in 1986, entitled Dragonball. Two more Dragonball films were shown after that in 1987 and 1988. From 1989 until 1995, there were a total of 13 Dragonball Z films released during this period. And in 1996, another film was released for the 10th anniversary of Dragonball.  One thing in common among all these films apart from the title is that these are animated. There was only one live-action film released, Dragonball: Evolution, which remains the only licensed live-action film. Manga From December 1984 until June 1995, there were 519 individual chapters released with 42 volumes. It aired 167 episodes which were launched internationally, but there were only 159 launched in Japan.  Also Read: Our Top Dragon Ball Z Gifts DBZ Filler Episodes  There are quite a good number of filler episodes. We cannot expect a brilliant mind such as Akira Toriyama to have something to offer at all times continually. Plus, anime have higher possibilities of running out of materials. Producers and part of the team made sure they have enough to offer their followers.  For Dragonball alone, there were 21 filler episodes only, which is only 14% of the entire series. DBZ is one of the longest-running anime series aired worldwide, and fillers are essential to continue to provide everyone with exciting episodes while the genius writers are coming up with new concepts for the upcoming stories.  Shop The Dragon Ball Z Collection Now Goku vs. Frieza: DBZ's Longest Fight in an Episode The longest fight in DBZ Saga is Goku vs Frieza. It actually lasted for 19 episodes. This was a breathtaking Saga as the two have their powers and expertise. A couple of times, Frieza was able to land hits on Goku, but he lacked stamina, which is why he never stood a chance on defeating Goku, especially when he transformed into a Super Saiyan.  Frieza may have had one or two chances in defeating him, but when he made the mistake of killing Goku's best friend, Krillin, it triggered the first transformation to being a Super Saiyan. That sealed his death because his strength is no match for Goku anymore. Also Read: Dragon Ball Z Games vs Naruto Games FAQs  Are Dragon Ball Z episodes still being made? No. Dragon Ball Z episodes are no longer being written, at least; that is what Toei Animation has announced. The last chapter aired was Dragon Ball Z Kai: The Final Chapters, shown way back in 2015. There is still no announcement about a new chapter despite a plot being introduced in the last episode. How long would it take to watch all of Dragon Ball Z? It will literally take you 276 hours and 18 minutes to watch Dragonball Z or 11 days if you convert it to days. This excludes trips to the bathroom or the kitchen, so you should be totally prepared if you plan to hug the couch and do the DBZ marathon. Why is Dragon Ball Z fights so long? Dragon Ball Z fights are usually long because these catch up to the manga story since anime production is much faster. This is the reason why there are so many filler episodes to give the writers time to come up with a new story.  What was Goku's biggest fight in Dragonball Z? The biggest fight in Dragonball Z would probably be the fight between Goku and Frieza. Though Frieza is not his strongest opponent, their match was much celebrated because he first transitioned into a Super Saiyan. Their five-minute showdown went down in the history of this anime series as the greatest battle, which awakened the true powers of our hero Goku. Wrapping Up!   Dragonball had faced a lot of controversies, especially when it was aired internationally for so many reasons, too much violence, nudity, and a lot more. However, this was loved worldwide, or else it wouldn't last for over two decades. This was a very entertaining offering from the producers, both manga and anime series. Toei Animation has not yet renewed Dragon Ball Super for Season 2. Until then, fans of this amazing anime can just hope that one day it will be aired once again, with stronger villains who will try to defeat the mighty heroes and get hold of the magical dragon balls.  For Dragon ball Z toys and collectibles, check out our store! When Did Friends Start? (2024 Updated) Full Guide

One of the sitcoms that captured the hearts of people all over the world is Friends. It follows the extraordinary story of a group of people everyone learned to love along the way. So, when did Friends start? From forming new friendships to strengthening their relationships, here are a few fun facts about one of the most beloved TV series ever! Friends: TV Show Debut  The famous sitcom TV show Friends aired on September 22, 1994, on NBC [1]. It showcased the lives of six people living in New York City.  David Crane and Marta Kauffman were the creative and brilliant people behind Friends. Who would believe that it was almost called “Friends Like Us” and “Six of One” at first? It’s a great thing they decided to keep it simple and just called it “Friends”! This series was composed of 10 seasons which captured the hearts of many in its 10 years in television. With its great storyline and entertaining episodes, the show garnered positive reviews and tons of awards, making it even more popular worldwide.  How It All Started   The pilot episode of this famous sitcom begins with four young adults, namely Monica, Joey, Chandler, and Phoebe. They were sitting inside Central Perk and talking about Monica's date in the coming night.  In the first episode, a woman came in who happened to be Monica's high school best friend - Rachel Green. She wanted to ask for Monica's help since his fiance left, and because of that, Rachel spent the rest of the day with the whole gang, which marked the start of their soon-to-be lifelong friendship.  The pilot episode presented the viewers with laughs and introduced the whole gang in a playful and truly interesting way.  Why & When Did Friends Become Popular Friends fans find the show interesting because everyone can relate to each of the character’s personalities. From the passion of Rachel for fashion, the charming vibe of Joey, the sarcastic jokes of Chandler, the timeless songs by Phoebe, Ross’s bad luck in love, and even up to the neurotic personality of Monica. Aside from that, people find the plot very relatable, as it tackles real-life situations in a young adult’s life stage. Friends Characters That We Loved  Many people have liked Ross Geller (David Schwimmer) since the first episode because of his affectionate nature, which has always been evident. His sister, Monica Geller (Courteney Cox), is tidy and the most meticulous in the gang.  Chandler Bing (Matthew Perry) is one of the crowd favorites because he is extremely witty and light-hearted. On the other hand, Rachel Green (Jenifer Aniston) is the person who will do everything in her power to achieve what she wants. Together with Chandler, Joey Tribbiani also possesses a funny vibe making him a more memorable Friends character. Meanwhile, Phoebe Buffay is too eccentric at times and the “weirdo hottie” of the gang.  Shop The Friends Collection Now Viewers Reception  Aside from the Los Angeles Daily News believing that it is one of the brighter comedies of the new season, the Los Angeles Times called it a flat-out comedy series too. Home Improvement is one of its contemporaries, but Friends received more positive feedback from critics than any other TV show in its time had.  Despite being a crowd favorite, people hate one episode among all - “The One With The Invitation.” This is the time when Rachel receives an invitation from Ross and his fiance's wedding. She decided to stay in New York together with Phoebe, who had just got impregnated by her brother (spoiler alert!) Friends Awards & Recognition Even though it came head to head with other great TV shows like Home Improvement, Friends’ cast came on top and received six Emmy Awards, including “Outstanding Comedy Series” (from its second season).  Each of the cast and production members has been nominated and even awarded different recognition. The final episode (Friends: The Reunion) was nominated for an Outstanding Pre-recorded Variety and gave Courteney Cox recognition.  Lisa Kudrow also won as the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. Friends Characters Ranked (2024 UPDATED) Definitive Guide

Friends Characters Ranked (2024 UPDATED) Definitive Guide

Friends have cemented themselves as one of the most iconic shows, with their legacy spanning the 90s and beyond. But if there’s one point of contention among fans, it’s deciding who is the best among all the Friends characters?  Our team spent 48 hours researching and came up with a ranking to answer the question once and for all! Friends Characters Ranked From Worst To Best Major Characters Rachel Green Rachel Green was first introduced as the spoiled runaway bride in the first episode. However, despite being a bit self-absorbed, we’ve seen her immense character growth into the person we all know and love.  Hey, it takes courage to transition from a life of lux to becoming a waitress in Central Perk! She then left it for a fashion industry career in the later seasons. Jennifer Aniston made a perfect portrayal of Rachel Green. She had her iconic moments in the series, like when she sang Copacabana in that ripped-off bridesmaid dress at Barry’s wedding or her falling after learning Ross came home with a new girlfriend -- Julie.  Many factors play into why Rachel is a great character, but one is being Monica's fiercely loyal friend. Truly, she’s the best friend we all wish we had! Ross Geller What better way to follow the list with the love interest of Rachel. Ross is surprisingly touted as the worst character among the six friends. Although, he ranked higher than expected because the awkwardness and hilarity of his character make him kind of a menace.  David Schwimmer played the character of Ross splendidly. His energy fits the nerdy, hopeless romantic brother with a successful career in Paleontology.  The likeability of his character is in question, but let’s cut the guy some slack. He already had an ex-wife when his character was introduced (don’t worry, we’ll get right to Ross’s ex-wife later in the list!)  Ross’s life had many great moments. Remember that time Marcel graced us as his pet? Or the one where he struggled taking off his sweaty leather pants and became a male nanny?  The one thing that redeems him is his undying love for Rach. Ross was a good guy. “We suspected Ross would come in last and be named Worst Friend. And it was true.” -Linda Holmes, Pop-Culture Correspondent.  Monica Geller-Bing Who else better to follow Ross on this list than his sister Monica. Truly one of the best Friends characters, thanks to her choleric nature.  Despite being a control freak in the kitchen, Monica is an awesome best friend to Rachel Green. Although her competitive energy burst out in disappointment when Rachel said, “transponster.” Courteney Cox did a great job portraying Monica Geller. She is undoubtedly one of the best characters in the show, but we can’t help but feel bad when Monica’s mother doesn’t approve of her.  Her sibling rivalry with her brother, Ross Geller, also resonated among the audience. Although she might seem a bit too stern, Monica exudes an oddly calming presence thanks to her mature disposition. Plus, we can’t deny that the Monica and Chandler Bing tandem is one of the best in combination in sitcom history. Phoebe Buffay No one matches Phoebe when it comes to eccentricity. Truly, she’s one of the funniest characters in the show, along with Chandler Bing and Joey Tribbiani. Although she typically falls on secondary plots, Phoebe had her hilarious highlights.  Who could forget that iconic song “smelly cat”? The storyline with her evil twin sister Ursula is another awesome stint that Phoebe had.  Also, who can forget Phoebe's pregnancy? She carried triplets for her brother (watch the show before judging!), which is one of the most insane schemes of brotherly love. Certainly, Monica can’t do the same for Ross, but Phoebe did, which says a lot. Lisa Kudrow portrayed Phoebe Buffay perfectly. Phoebe’s weird quirks added a unique flavor to the main gang for ten seasons - truly deserving her spot in this worst to best list. Chandler Bing Chandler is arguably most people’s favorite character in Friends. His witty remarks, smart comebacks, and on-and-off relationship with Janice cemented him as the funny guy in the group.  “It's almost impossible to not laugh as soon as he enters a scene.” -Katerina Daley, Screen Rant Writer. Chandler’s hopeless romantic quest for true love finally came to a close with Monica. Despite the hilarious character he is, the proposal of Chandler to Monica is the only thing in the ten seasons where he took the funny guise off and became genuinely honest. We believe Matthew Perry is perfect for the Chandler role. He’s a funny and witty soul in real life, making the Friends role a walk in the park. Although other characters added in fun, it was Chandler who had the ball rolling. Joey Tribbiani Many will agree that Joey is indeed the best character in the franchise. His wit, or lack thereof, marked his way into viewers’ hearts. Underneath all the “how you doin’?” and the “Joey doesn’t share food!” is a good friend that supported every character, one way or another. Joey’s easy-going nature might not look like he’s the responsible type, but his character proved us wrong time and again throughout the show. He proposed to pregnant Rachel because he didn’t want the child to grow fatherless.  Joey also stopped eating meat when Phoebe was pregnant. Who can forget how he let Kathy and Chandler be together because they’re a better match? Joey also never changed his views, even though he’s always on TV. We all deserve a Joey in all the days of our lives (right?), and Matt LeBlanc played his character beautifully. Shop The FRIENDS Collection Now Supporting Characters The Chick & The Duck The chick and the duck had a brief stint in the show, although they were some of the most memorable personas in Friends. After listening and misunderstanding the news, Joey got them as a gift for Chandler so both of them could raise the two.  The duo served as parents to these humble avians, and we’ve seen them occasionally go on screen. However, they now live on a farm we cannot visit (Joey still doesn’t know!)  Ursula Ursula was another iconic character introduced in the show. She was Phoebe’s identical twin sister, so it was also Lisa Kudrow who played this mysterious and darker persona. The similarity between Ursula and Phoebe ends with the physique.  Although Pheebs was a bit eccentric, she was never evil like Ursula. Remember how she used Pheebs to pursue her career in adult entertainment? Or even insulted Phoebe by dating Joey? Ursula was the worst! Frank Jr. Ross and Monica were great siblings, but Frank Buffay Jr. and Phoebe were an entirely different story. They were both eccentric, although Frank got the longer end of the stick in this regard.  Despite the quirks, he was a faithful man to his incredibly older partner. Nevertheless, thanks to his character, we were able to witness one of the weirdest storylines ever -- Phoebe’s pregnancy. Susan Bunch & Carol Willick Susan and Carol are the two people behind Ross’ fear of marital relationships. Story plots aside, they were great representations in an era where the LGBTQ+ were treated unequally.  Friends was pivotal to show two strong women raising their son alongside Ross. Eventually, they patch things up and remain friends, which is healthy, especially for the young Ben. The two also had some awesome moments with the six friends. Estelle Leonard “Hey, Joey! It's Estelle.” Who can ever forget these iconic lines from Joey’s manager? Although she appeared seldom and popped out on the screen only when making phone calls to Joey, she was the one who supported his acting career.  Although she died one faithful day, she is sorely missed by the people she left behind. One of them is good ol’ Tribbiani. Jack & Judy Geller Jack and Judy Geller were also an awesome duo in the show. Although true, they made the life of Monica a tad bit miserable, but this made her a stronger and more independent person. The relationship between them and their daughter is so relatable to the audience.  Not every child has great connections with their parents, but Monica handled it perfectly. It was never revealed why Judy Geller is contentious of her daughter, but perhaps underneath that cloak of disapproval is a hidden love. Richard Burke Richard Burke appeared for no more than ten episodes in the entire Friends series, but he sure left a colossal impact (no pun intended). He was not only a partner but also a sympathetic father figure to Ross’ sister.  He’s a classy, sophisticated, and mature guy that keeps Monica’s choleric impulses under control. Richard was a great character; albeit he appeared briefly, he sure was remembered positively by the friends and people watching. Gunther Many remember Gunther as that stoic coffee dude in Central Perk. Stoic because he remained faithful to Rachel after the countless times he’d seen her with another guy; provided, Rachel never even once knew Gunther had feelings for her. Gunther’s subtle stints in the show were fun to watch. Some might even find it cute that he has a little crush on her. But if there’s one thing about him that is commendable; it is that he didn’t make a move on Rachel when they were co-workers. That would’ve been inappropriate! Mike Hannigan Mike Hannigan appeared later in Friends, but he sure made an impact, especially on Phoebe’s life. With his short time in Friends, Paul Rudd’s Mike Hannigan made one of the best love interests in the entire show. Falling head over heels on Pheebs and getting married in the snow is a satisfying conclusion to their relationship. It might look weird to see Paul Rudd so young into the show, but he surely did great with his character. Janice Litman-Goralnik Do you remember getting the same chills on your back like Chandler’s whenever you hear Janice laugh? Her laugh alone might be the most memorable element in Friends that non-avid fans might remember.  Maggie Wheeler did an excellent job playing the role of Janice. Her on and off relationship with Chandler was painful to watch because she has her heart broken every time, simply because Bing feels icky about her. Not cool, Chandler! Nevertheless, Janice is the best supporting role in the show, which is not up for debate. Also Read: Our Recommended Friends TV Show Gifts Some Iconic Character Guestings Danny DeVito as the Male Stripper The beloved, kind, funny, and talented Danny DeVito also made a brief appearance in one episode of Friends. He starred as Roy, aka “Officer Goodbody,” a last-minute stripper hired by Monica and Rachel for Phoebe’s bachelorette party.  It was a hilarious episode, especially the observable disgust among the ladies seeing an older man stripping in front of them. Props to Danny for his incredible though short performance! Brad Pitt as Will Colbert The dashing Brad Pitt also appeared in Friends for one Thanksgiving special episode. He went to the same high school as Ross, Monica, and Rachel. Little did Rachel know that the kid she bullied way back then became the steamy Will Colbert.  It’s extremely funny how Colbert relapsed to his hatred upon seeing Rachel. This tension created an awkward yet funny Thanksgiving dinner. Reese Witherspoon & Christina Applegate as Rachel’s Sisters Rachel has two sisters on the show: Jill (played by Reese Witherspoon) and Amy (Christina Applegate). Both were awful individuals which Rachel only had a clearer perspective after her significant character development in the show. Their stints in Friends were brief but enough to make people cringe and laugh at the same time. FAQs Who’s the funniest Friends character? Chandler is undoubtedly the funniest Friends character! From his ridiculous dance moves to his inability to take photos, everyone loved his wit. Matthew Perry did a great job for the role. [1] Who is the prettiest from Friends? Empirical data on a survey among Friends fans revealed that Rachel is the most attractive in Friends getting a 50% unanimous vote. Honestly, her beauty spanned beyond the final episodes of Friends.  To this date, Jennifer Aniston is one of the most attractive actresses to go on screen. [2] Who is the most hated character from Friends? Ross is undoubtedly the worst among Friends. He took so long to get over Susan, and he even said “Rachel” during the exchange of vows at his wedding with Emily! Which Friends character has the most fans? Ahead of the reunion special, YouGov America had a survey to see who America’s favorite friend was, and Rachel topped the list with 20%, followed by Phoebe with 18%—although the bottom of the barrel falls on Ross, played by David Schwimmer, with only 5%. How Old Were the Golden Girls (2024) Definitive Guide

How Old Were the Golden Girls (2024) Definitive Guide

The Golden Girls’ actual ages were never revealed on the classic sitcom, but die-hard fans (us included!) were able to put two and two together based on the clues left behind on each episode.  We’ll see how our favorite Golden Girls’ on-screen ages fare against their actual ages in real life.  Golden Girls: How Old Were They?   The ages of the Golden Girls were never explicitly stated in the sitcom. However, it’s known that the show's timeline began in 1985, the same year it first aired, and each of the seven seasons took place seven years in the timeline.  Part of the charm of the Golden Girls sitcom was the characters themselves. Older women were often stereotyped as homebodies, not much good for anything else other than baking cookies and rocking in their chairs while knitting. And while we do see Rose, Dorothy, Sophia, and Blanche bonding over their shared love for cooking -- boy, did they have wilder adventures than us!  When Did The Show Start?  Golden Girls is over 35 years old, having first debuted on September 14, 1985… yet it still finds a way to attract young and old audiences. In 2020 alone, Hulu reported that over 11 million hours were spent watching this sitcom, making it one of the streaming site’s top 10 most binge-watched shows.  NBC took a risk when they first aired the program. Older women in starring roles were hardly represented in television, and the show’s executives weren’t sure how the audience would receive the quirky program. Their worries were put to rest when the show received a standing ovation at the preview screening and was immediately signed on for 12 more Golden Girls episodes.  Golden Girls was critically acclaimed and a massive success. It won two Primetime Emmys for Outstanding Comedy Series twice and three Golden Globe Awards for Best Television Series. All four Golden Girls cast members received Emmy awards for their performances.  Golden Girls Main Characters  Rose Nylund (Betty White) Betty White as Rose Nylund is easily the Golden Girl we could give the most accurate age to. In the episode “Job Hunting” (Season 1, Episode 22), when sweet, naive Rose talks about losing her old job at the grief counseling center, Dorothy explicitly states that Rose’s age is 55 in season one. This makes Rose 62 at the season finale.  In real life, the actress Betty White plays a much younger character than her actual age, which was 63 when the show first aired. If you ask us, the cast member didn’t look a day over 50!  Also Read: What's The Most Popular Golden Girls One-Liner? Dorothy Zbornak (Bea Arthur) Bea Arthur as Dorothy Zbornack was a substitute teacher with a stern yet beautiful heart of gold. Her actual age was never stated, but her mother, Sophia, tells Dorothy in “Nothing to Fear but Fear of Himself” (Season 3, Episode 5) about the night Dorothy was conceived in 1931. In a subsequent episode “Stan Takes a Wife” (Season 4, Episode 10), Dorothy reveals that she is a Leo.  This gives us a safe guess as to when her birthday is. She was born in either late July or early August in 1932, making her 53 at the beginning of the series. Bea Arthur, who played Dorothy, was 63 in the first season. She was a few months younger than White.  Shop The Golden Girls Collection Now Sophia Petrillo (Estelle Getty) Estelle Getty as Sophia Petrillo is the oldest at 79 years old when the series begins. As Dorothy’s mother, she often uses her age as leverage to prove a point over the younger Golden Girls. In a flashback episode “A Piece of Cake” (Season 2, Episode 25), Sophia celebrated her 50th birthday in 1956.  However, did you know that the actress who played Sophia was actually one year younger than Betty White and Bea Arthur (her on-screen daughter)? It took the makeup artists at least 45 minutes to age Estelle Getty into Sophia during filming!  Blanche Devereaux (Rue McClanahan) Rue McClanahan played Blanche Devereaux, a character so adamant about people not finding out her real age that she had it removed from official records. When Rose dug through files, she found out this character’s age had been “deleted by Authority of the Governor.”  The mystery of Blanche Devereaux’s age has become sort of a running joke throughout the series, but we were able to pick up a few clues. In “End of the Curse” (Season 2, Episode 1), Blanche believes she might be pregnant and claims that she’ll be 65 by the time the child graduates high school. Assuming the child will graduate at 17, this makes Blanche 48 in 1986, and 47 at the start of the series.  However, this assumption was thrown out of the window when “Mother’s Day” (Season 3, Episode 25) aired. Blanche’s mother confirms that she was 17 years old in 1949 as they were reminiscing over Blanche’s past dates. Considering how simply Blanche lied to her housemates about how old she was and how Sophia called her out, it’s alright to assume that she was 53 in the series pilot.  Rue McClanahan wasn’t too far behind in terms of age; the actress was only one year younger at 52 when she started playing her character Blanche. She was the youngest Golden Girl and at least ten years younger than the other women. Also Read: Our Favorite Golden Girls Gifts  FAQs  Is the cast of the Golden Girls still alive? Sadly, none of the four Golden Girls actresses is still alive. Betty White, the actress who played Rose, died on December 31, 2021 at 99 years old. [1] Bea Arthur, who played Dorothy, passed away in 2009 at 86 years old; Estelle Getty died in 2008 just three days before her 85th birthday (she played Sophia); and Rue McClanahan, who played Blanche, died in 2010 at 76 years old.  Can you still watch Golden Girls today? Yes, you can still watch Golden Girls today. All seven seasons of The Golden Girls are available for fans on Hulu Plus, Amazon, Google Play, Vudu, and iTunes.  So, How Old Were The Golden Girls?  Age is truly just a number when it comes to the lovable Golden Girls. Having fun isn’t just limited to young kids, and it’s not true that older women have it all figured out! Knowing the actual ages of the Golden Girls would give fans a different experience when re-watching the classic sitcom.  Want Golden Girls collectibles? 25 Best Golden Girls Episodes (2024 UPDATED) Must Read

25 Best Golden Girls Episodes (2024 UPDATED) Must Read

Golden Girls is considered one of the best television shows, starring the quirky ensemble of Betty White, Rue McClanahan, Bea Arthur, and Estelle Getty. The entire series was highly rated and critically acclaimed, having won two Emmys and three Golden Globes during its runtime. It is also one of the only three shows whose four main stars have each won an Emmy for their performances.  So if you’re planning to re-watch the entire seven seasons, here are our picks for the best episodes of the Golden Girls.  Top 25 Golden Girls Episodes of All Time  1. One Flew Out of the Cuckoo's Nest Part 1 & 2 (Season 7, Episode 25 and 26)   The two-part series finale ranks as our favorite episode. It is beautifully heartwarming yet heartbreaking at times because we know it’s the last we’ll see of the Golden Girls.  The episode starts with Blanche dumping her Uncle Lucas (played by Leslie Nielsen) with Dorothy on a blind date, as she had a date planned prior and could not accommodate him. Blanche’s uncle and Dorothy start unsure, but as they get to know each other, they find out that Blanche has been telling them untrue stories about the other. The two seek revenge on Blanche by pretending to fall in love with each other.  Blanche is furious that Dorothy might end up being her aunt, and while the ruse is happening, Lucas and Dorothy develop romantic feelings for real. Lucas and Dorothy decide to be truthful to Blanche, not wanting to hurt her any longer, and Blanche gives her uncle and her best friend her blessing.  Two months later, Dorothy and Lucas get married, and Dorothy gets Blanche and Rose as her bridesmaids. Sophia tearfully lets her go and promises to stay and take care of Blanche and Rose in Miami.  Guest star Leslie Nielsen delivered a powerful performance in this episode, and we wish we’d seen more of him!  But are the Golden Girls still alive? 2. Letter to Gorbachev (Season 3, Episode 6)   Letter to Gorbachev tells the tale of how Rose touched the heart of Russian president Mikhail Gorbachev. She decides to send the Russian president a letter about ending the nuclear war. It is one of the most imaginative episodes of the Golden Girls.  An official of the Russian Embassy named Alexi Bovanov came to their home to look for Rose Nylund and told her that a press conference would be held in her honor to talk about world peace. They also wished to invite her to Russia so the president could formally meet her.  The Embassy suspects that a young girl may have written the letter due to its naivete, and the press conference ends with a shock when Rose reveals that she wrote it.  Betty White was beautifully innocent yet still totally believable in this episode.  Also Read: What's the Best Golden Girls Gift For Fans? 3. Before and After (Season 2, Episode 15)   In this episode, sweet Rose faces a near-death experience that leaves her determined to change her entire lifestyle and, consequently, her friends. She realizes that it’s a miserable life without true friends and decides to move back to the girls’ home.  4. Mrs. George Deveraux (Season 6, Episode 9)   Mrs. George Deveraux was one of the sitcom’s best episodes. Blanche receives flowers from a secret admirer, who turns out to be her late husband, George Deveraux (played by George Grizzard). Blanche is shocked -- after all, her husband had been dead for nine years in a car crash. George tells her that he faked his death because he found out that his business partner had been stealing from their company and was blaming him.  They share a touching kiss, but the audience soon discovers that everything was something Blanche concocted in a dream. Dorothy overhears the younger woman talking in her sleep and goes to console her.  In the episode’s subplot, Dorothy finds himself in the midst of a love triangle between Sonny Bono and Lyle Waggoner!  Rue McClanahan was wondrous in her performance in this episode.  Also Read: Golden Girls - Ages and More 5. Family Affair (Season 2, Episode 7)   In this Golden Girls episode, Rose’s daughter Bridget and Dorothy’s son Michael choose the same time to pay a visit to their parents’ home. The gal pals get shocked when they discover their children having a little romance!  6. In a Bed of Rose's (Season 1, Episode 15)   When Rose discovers that Al Beatty, a man she had been seeing casually, died from a heart attack after having sex with her, Rose is convinced that she has a death jinx -- after all, her late husband died similarly! She tracks down Al’s sister to tell her what happened, but she discovers that she was his wife instead and that he had sadly been unfaithful for many years.  7. To Catch a Neighbor (Season 2, Episode 24)   The four Golden Girls get two new neighbors in To Catch a Neighbor, which they invite over for dinner. The McDowells are nice and sweet, but when two detectives show up at their door, the girls discover that they are actually dealers in stolen gems!  8. Ladies of the Evening (Season 2, Episode 2)   Ladies of the Evening is one of the funniest episodes of the sitcom! Three of our girls (minus Sophia) are mistaken for prostitutes when they stay at a hotel bar to attend a Burt Reynolds movie premiere. This lands them in jail when the police arrest the real prostitutes. Sophia comes to their rescue, convincing the police that the three ladies had been mistakenly arrested.  Burt Reynolds guest stars as himself in this episode!  9. Never Yell Fire in a Crowd Parts 1&2 (Season 6, Episode 24 and 25)   In the penultimate episode of season 6, Rose, Dorothy, and Blanche fear that Sophia might get sent to jail when a former Shady Pines Retirement Home resident dies and pins her and Sophia as the culprit of the fire. Sophia struggles to remember the day in question, and she’s hardly exempt from jail time because of her age. Guess who swoops in to save the day? Rose!  Shop The Golden Girls Collection Now 10. Sick and Tired Part 1 and 2 (Season 5, Episode 1 and 2)   The series was considered way ahead of its time when they tackled mental illness in Sick and Tired, one of their best episodes. Dorothy had been to several doctors; however, they all but dismissed her. They all told her “it’s all in her head” when she asked them for a reason as to why she felt sick and tired all the time. The last straw came when one of the doctors told her that she just needed to try something new to “break the cycle,” like color her hair blond.  Hopeless, Dorothy tries one last time to get another doctor’s opinion; this time, she is advised to go to a specialist. The specialist diagnosed her with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, a real illness -- the series creator Susan Harris was afflicted by it when she co-wrote this episode.  Bea Arthur’s performance in this episode was truly remarkable. Here are our favorite quotes from Golden Girls! 11. Dorothy's Prized Pupil (Season 2, Episode 21)    One of Dorothy’s students, a Cuban immigrant named Mario, submits an essay about his first day in America. Dorothy feels it would win him an award should she submit it to a writing contest. Mario wins, but an agent from the Department of Immigration and Naturalization Services spoils their celebration by revealing that the young boy is in the country illegally.  Both Mario and Bea give heartwarming performances at the episode’s unhappy ending, when the student gets deported. Also, fun fact: a young Mario Lopez [1] -- the now-famous talk show host -- stars as Mario!  12. The Mangiacavallo Curse Makes a Lousy Wedding Present (Season 5, Episode 23)   The wedding of Jenny, Dorothy’s goddaughter, is fast approaching. Rose, Dorothy, and Blanche are frustrated because they can’t get dates; on the other hand, Sophia is determined to show up looking good because a beau from her past, Giuseppe Mangiacavallo, is expected to be there. She holds a grudge against him for leaving her at the altar 70 years ago.  Since then, Sophia has put a curse on Mangiacavallo, and tells him at the wedding that she has planned for all the happiness of the day to “come crashing down on your head.” Mangiacavallo scoffs and doesn’t believe her until the newlyweds get into a fight that threatens to ruin the reception.  Mangiacavallo asks Sophia to forgive him, and she lifts the curse off.  13. The Case of the Libertine Belle (Season 7, Episode 2)   “The Case of the Libertine Belle” is a known fan-favorite episode due to its gripping mystery feel. Blanche invites the rest of the Golden Girls over to her company’s murder-mystery weekend outing. Dorothy solves the puzzle single-handedly, and everyone applauds her.  Meanwhile, Blanche gets involved in a real murder mystery weekend, and it’s up to Dorothy and her sleuthing skills to clear her name.  14. The Sisters (Season 2, Episode 12)   Sophia’s birthday is coming up, and Dorothy struggles to find the perfect present for her. When the idea of having Sophia’s sister Angela over comes to her, she thinks she’s concocted the perfect surprise! However, the girls soon learn why the sisters have not spoken for the past 30 years -- because of a huge fight and suspicion of betrayal. It’s now up to Dorothy, Rose, and Blanche to bring peace to the fighting sisters.  15. Witness (Season 6, Episode 21)   In the episode “Witness,” Rose is trying to move on with her life with her new boyfriend, Karl, when a past flame who worked undercover in the Witness Protection Program attempts to get back together with her.  16. An Illegitimate Concern (Season 5, Episode 18)   Sophia takes Dorothy to a mother-daughter competition in Shady Pines to beat an old rival, which they won runners-up to. Meanwhile, a mysterious young man shows up at the door of their Miami home, looking for George Devereaux. After Blanche confronts him, he reveals that he is an illegitimate son of her late husband, which hurts her, as she had remained faithful to George while they had been together.  17. 72 Hours (Season 5, Episode 19)   “72 Hours” episode features a progressive take on a sensitive subject that was considered taboo at the time: HIV. Rose is afraid that she may have gotten HIV from a blood transfusion she had undergone several years ago and has to wait 72 hours to receive the result.  Blanche comforts Rose and tells her that she went through the same thing, but she’s learned her lesson and makes sure to know about her partner’s sexual history and to use protection. Rose is stressed and insults Blanche’s sex life; she claims she is “too good” to have gotten this virus. Blanche reminds her that getting HIV is not a punishment from God and that having the virus doesn’t mean you are a bad person.  18. Sophia's Wedding Parts 1 and 2 (Season 4, Episodes 5 and 6)   In “Sophia’s Wedding,” Sophia learns of her late husband’s business partner’s wife’s death and heads over to Brooklyn to pay her respects. She remains antagonistic to Max Weinstock (played by Jack Gilford), who she believes had squandered away all of her husband’s fortunes. She finds out that it had been her husband and not Max who was at fault, and he was merely covering for him. The two hook up… and decide to get married right then and there, much to Dorothy’s dismay.  They get a house by the beach and turn it into a pizza and knish stand, which their late beloveds had always wanted. When the store catches fire and burns down, the two realize that they didn’t want to run a pizza and knish stand, much less stay married to each other... and the two amicably part ways.  19. Mister Terrific (Season 3, Episode 24)   Rose meets television star Mr. Terrific at a local mall, who asks her out on a date the same evening. When he comes over to the girls’ house that night, he offers Dorothy an excellent opportunity: to become a consultant on his show!  Dorothy shows up on her first day of work and makes brilliant suggestions to the show’s producer, ultimately getting Mr. Terrific fired. It isn't her intention at all, but seeing how her actions affected Mr. Terrific, she convinces the producer to bring him back on air. The episode takes a turn for the worse when she is chosen to replace Mr. Terrific as the host of the program! 20. Brother, Can You Spare that Jacket? (Season 4, Episode 8)   The Golden Girls are ecstatic when they discover that the lottery ticket they bought cost $10,000, which they hide in Blanche’s jacket. Sophia mistakenly puts the jacket inside a box meant for goodwill, and the four girls race around the state on a “follow that jacket” course.  21. Old Friends (Season 3, Episode 1)   Estelle Getty, who played Sophia Petrillo, showcased her acting chops and won an Emmy for her performance in “Old Friends” (aside from that episode when Sophia’s son dies). Sophia establishes a friendship with Alvin (played by Joe Seneca), a man she meets at the beach, with whom she quickly shares a unique bond as they relate to each other over their children and late spouses. After spending more and more time together, though, Alvin’s erratic behavior leads her to conclude that he might have Alzheimer’s disease, and he will need to be taken to a special care facility as soon as his condition worsens. Sophia knits him a scarf as a symbol of their friendship.  The episode’s subplot shows Rose’s teddy bear held hostage by one of her Sunshine Cadets.  22. Three Friends on a Couch (Season 3, Episode 11)   The girls decide to seek a therapist when the cracks in their friendship begin to manifest. This is a hilarious flashback episode as the girls recount the problematic points (like Rusty Anchor nights, St. Olaf stories, and the Nudist Resort) in their relationship. This entire episode just shows how deeply they care for one another.  23. Break-In (Season 1, Episode 8)   After the girls attend a Madonna concert, they find that their home has been broken into. Dorothy loses her fur and Blanche her jewelry. They try unsafe yet hilarious ways of making their home safer, such as installing a burglar alarm and even bringing home a guard dog from the shelter, all to no avail.  24. Dorothy's New Friend (Season 3, Episode 15)    Dorothy makes a new friend, Barbara Thorndyke (played by Bonnie Bartlett), in this episode. Rose and Blanche don’t like Barbara as they feel that she treats everyone else condescendingly and uses her intelligence to make everyone else look stupid. Dorothy makes the difficult choice of attending the exclusive Mortimer Club at Barbara’s request, or the Masquerade Ball, which means so much to Rose.  25. Till Death Do We Volley (Season 4, Episode 19)   A childhood friend named Trudy (played by Anne Francis) visits Dorothy in Miami. The old friends -- and occasionally, rivals -- play a spirited game of tennis when Trudy suddenly drops dead on the court. Dorothy is in shock, and so is everyone else when Trudy gets up and reveals that she was only playing practical jokes.  FAQS  How many episodes does Golden Girls have? The series featured plenty of holiday-themed episodes, such as Valentine’s Day and Christmas Day.  What’s the highest-rated episode in Golden Girls? The highest-rated episode of Golden Girls is the show’s finale, “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.” It was the perfect mix of absurd and adorable, with heartwarming and touching scenes throughout its run time. Fans say it was the perfect way to end such a phenomenal show.  What’s the funniest Golden Girls episode? Each Golden Girls episode is chock full of laughs, but we have to say that nothing tops “Ladies of the Evening.” Our sides were definitely splitting when the three ladies were mistaken for prostitutes, and we couldn’t deny that we were thinking exactly what Sophia was thinking: “I can't believe these dumb cops would think anybody would pay money to sleep with you!”  Wrapping Up…  There isn’t a shortage of laughter and lessons to be shared when it comes to the best episodes of the Golden Girls. Fans actually clamored for more Golden fun that there even was a spinoff right after the show ended, aptly named the Golden Palace! 20 Best Golden Girls Quotes (2024 UPDATED) Don't Miss

20 Best Golden Girls Quotes (2024 UPDATED) Don't Miss

The four ladies from the Emmy and Golden Globe Award-Winning television show, aptly named Golden Girls, imparted profound nuggets of wisdom and substance throughout its seven-year run time.  Here are some quotes that stood out to us, and you don’t have to be a Golden Girl to relate. These 20 Golden Girls quotes will make you laugh and cry no matter what age you are.  Top 20 Golden Girls Quotes  1. “It is not easy being a mother. If it were easy, fathers would do it.” — Dorothy This statement by Dorothy is funny and sarcastic yet rings some truth to it. Being a mother is difficult -- the emotional investment, lack of free time, and physical fatigue will definitely take their toll on everyone. Maybe that’s why fathers don’t do it.  2. “Crying is for plain women. Pretty women go shopping.” — Blanche Fun-loving Blanche has a point -- don’t dwell too much on the cause of your sadness, like what “plain girls” do. Go shopping and have fun! We’re not sure how sustainable it is in the long run -- after all, we’ve all got to deal with our emotions at some point -- but it’s a great start to getting over your troubles!  Also Read: How Old Were The Golden Girls During The Show? 3. “People waste their time pondering whether a glass is half empty or half full. Me, I just drink whatever’s in the glass.” — Sophia As the oldest of all the Golden Girls, Sophia does make some very compelling points! Whether you view the glass half-full or half-empty is trivial -- at the end of the day, what you get out of a situation and the lesson you learned is what’s important.  4. “Nobody ever believes me when I’m telling the truth. I guess it’s the curse of being a devastatingly beautiful woman.” — Blanche When Blanche talks, we have no choice but to agree!  5. “After 80, every year without a headstone is a milestone!” — Sophia Sophia does have a point -- morbidly true, even. Did you know that the life expectancy of people past 80 is only 7 to 8 years? That’s not really a lot of time.  6. “It’s like life is a giant weenie roast, and I’m the biggest weenie!” — Rose We’ve all been Rose at some point. When life throws us curveballs, it’s easy to believe that we have it worse than others. The important thing to do when we feel this way is to take a deep breath and put things into perspective. The best solutions are always found whenever we’re calm and rational!  Also Read: Golden Girls Popular Episodes 7. “Jean is a nice person. She happens to like girls instead of guys. Some people like cats instead of dogs. Frankly, I’d rather live with a lesbian than a cat. Unless a lesbian sheds; that I don’t like.” — Sophia Golden Girls was thought of by many as a show way ahead of its time. At a time when the LGBT community wasn't as accepted as they are today, you have four lovely ladies talking about how someone is a nice person, never mind their sexual orientation. It has nothing to do with who they are as a person anyway!  8. “My mother used to say: the older you get, the better you get. Unless you’re a banana.” — Rose We have to agree with Rose here -- age allows us plenty of experiences from which we can take reference. You can’t say the same for when you’re younger. Unless you’re a banana, of course, in which case you’d make for a loaf of mean banana bread!  9. “I’ve been having a good time, and there wasn’t even a man in the room.” — Blanche When you’re out with friends, you’ll always have a good time. You don’t need a man to be happy if you’re genuinely happy on the inside!  Shop The Golden Girls Collection Now 10. “Jealousy is an ugly thing, Dorothy. And so are you, in anything backless.” — Sophia We don’t know if it was a thing back then, but our Golden Girls have been burning people before it was even considered cool. Sophia was definitely the sassiest burner. On a more serious note, jealousy is an ugly feeling, and it’s okay if you can’t help it -- we’re human and flawed. The important thing is taking note of what jealousy contributes to our lives -- does it make us angry and spiteful, or does it inspire us to become better?  11. “I thought I was gonna die. I swear I have never felt such agony. I saw my entire life flash before my eyes and I thought, ‘What a shame if I die now, I’m too young… and I’m wearing the wrong underwear.’” — Blanche  We really won’t be able to plan our death or the exact manner in which we die, but we always have to wear clean underwear just in case!  12. “I feel that you have backed me into a corner, and when I am backed into a corner, I come out fightin’ like a wildcat. Unless I’ve had too much to drink, in which case I slide down the wall and make mad passionate love on the carpet.” — Blanche This statement shows how strong Blanche is as a character. She is not one to go down without a fight… but then again, she has to back it up with a line that shows her love for drinking and cocktails.  13. “No matter how bad things get, remember these sage words: You’re old, you sag, get over it.” — Sophia It doesn’t matter how dire the situation looks -- it’s not permanent and you’ll get over and through it. This statement from Sophia really is sage words.  14. “My great-granddaddy always said that there are two things you never sell to a friend — a car and a slave — because if either one of them quits working you’ll never hear the end of it. Of course, they hanged my great-granddaddy. He said a lot of things he shouldn’t have.” — Blanche Sometimes, extreme truthfulness does get one in trouble -- it wouldn’t hurt to be wise and assess the situation first before we decide to open our mouths!  15. “Let me tell you girls the three most important things I learned about life: number one, hold fast to your friends; number two, there’s no such thing as security; and number three, don’t go see Ishtar. Woof.” — Sophia We have to agree with Sophia’s wisdom here. We should definitely hold onto our friends and help them out when they need us because we’ll never know when we’ll need them. There is no such thing as security because everything can change in an instant. And of course, don’t see Ishtar -- that movie has horrible reviews.  Also Read: Our Recommended Golden Girls Gifts 16. “You know my motto. Today could be the last day of your life.” — Sophia Life is short, and there is always a chance that today is the last day of our lives. We should make it a point to live life to the fullest every day, do what makes us happy, and tell our loved ones that we love them.  17. “Look, you didn’t ask me for my opinion, but I’m old, so I’m giving it anyway.” — Sophia It’s honestly annoying to get unsolicited opinions from others, but if it’s from someone as worldly and experienced as Sophia, we honestly wouldn’t mind! We’re sure we’d be able to pick up a few wise words here and there that will aid us in whatever we’re going through.  18. “Why do blessings wear disguises? If I were a blessing, I’d run around naked.” — Sophia That’s the funny thing about life -- sometimes we stumble across blessings, but we’re unaware at the time that they’re actually blessings, and the realization will come right after we’ve pondered the whole situation. If only blessings were easily identifiable… but then again, where’s the fun in that?  19. “Oh, don’t give up, Dorothy. If the ancient Egyptians could move 20-ton stone blocks to build the pyramids [1], we can move a toilet.” — Rose Rose is a very sweet woman who gave us so much wisdom in this statement. Other people’s feats should provide great inspiration to us whenever we feel like we can’t achieve something difficult! If other people did it, so can you!  20. “Dorothy, where I come from you learn never to turn your back on family! NEVER! When your crazy cousin Nunzio started living with his pet goat, did the family turn their back on him? No. And after a couple of nights, neither did the goat.” — Sophia Most of the people we know have a love-hate relationship with their families. Sometimes, they can’t help but drive us bananas! Family is family, and at the end of the day, sticking with them is the best decision you can make, because you know they’re the only people who’d do the same for you.  Key Takeaways  We sincerely hope these Golden Girls quotes were as meaningful and funny to you as they were to us.
